Our vision

Centennial Living is a new company in the seniors living sector with a big vision. Our vision is for our retirement communities to be neighbourhoods that inspire, connect, and expand horizons, where everyone can live life to the full.

To achieve this, we provide the homes, lifestyle and support services that create vitality in our communities. It’s about celebrating independence and having the freedom to live a long, happy and fulfilling life.

Managing Director

Derek McMillan

Centennial Living was established by Derek McMillan, who has extensive experience and expertise in the sector. He was the CEO of the mutual organisation Australian Unity Retirement Living for over a decade and served on several boards during that time. Derek has been Director and Vice-President of the National Ageing Research Institute for the past five years. He has also served as Chairman of the Retirement Living Council, Vice-President of the Retirement Villages Association and a Director of Leading Aged Services Australia (Vic). Outside of work and family, Derek likes to channel his energy into fitness and sports, and he is also a big fan of the Collingwood Football Club.

Finance Director

Tony Connon

Tony is a highly experienced and respected Finance Director. With a career spanning over 20 years in CFO and Financial Controller roles for major Australian companies. He has also been a director or board member of a large number of commercial and non-commercial organisations. When he’s not keeping tabs on company finances, Tony enjoys returning old houses to their former glory and he is also a classic car enthusiast.

General Manager, Marketing & Community Engagement

Merryn Bray

With a celebrated career in the health and wellbeing sectors at various Australian commercial, not-for-profit and mutual organisations, Merryn worked with Derek & Tony at Australian Unity and brings a rare level of leadership and innovation to the marketing team at Centennial Living. In many ways, her role goes beyond traditional marketing to encompass service development—her focus is on delivering an outstanding product to ensure that the customer experience is second to none. Being one to practice what she preaches, Merryn likes to stay both physically and mentally active. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, running, kayaking, yoga and immersing herself in art, literature, and films.

General Manager Operations

Charmaine Waugh

Charmaine's career in the retirement village and aged care industry spans more than 40 years. Her wealth of knowledge and experience is underpinned with a nursing background. Prior to joining Centennial Living, Charmaine was the General Manager of Residential Communities Victoria at Australian Unity. Her portfolio included approximately 1,000 retirement units and 750 residential aged care beds. She also has considerable experience with community care.

Charmaine has received numerous awards throughout her career, including being recognised as one of Australia’s Top 10 Aged Care Managers. Charmaine is extremely passionate about making a difference in the lives of older Australians. When not working, Charmaine is likely to be found somewhere warm, by a pool with a good book. Her other passions are her very spoiled dogs Ollie and Coco and her granddaughter, Ruby.
