Our Favourite New Year’s Resolutions

Last modified on December 18th, 2023

Not everyone believes in them, but at Burnside Village, we’re fans of a good new year’s resolution. Usually you’ll hear the naysayers telling everyone that there’s nothing special about the change of the year. But particularly this year, more than most others before, we think we’ll be hearing only very little of that.

For many people, 2020 has been a deeply challenging year. The COVID-19 pandemic is still ongoing, but the easing of restrictions, and the emergence of a new normal, is a phenomenal opportunity to make the leap into a new way of doing things.

So, let’s dive into what it takes to make the most of your new year’s resolution, and ensure that you’re on track for success in the new year.

Build New Healthy Habits

It might be a cliché, but it’s hard to beat a renewed commitment to your health and wellbeing. Whether you’re already in a good place with your health, or you’re feeling like you need to make some bigger changes, the new year is a great opportunity to start fresh and make it happen.

If this type of resolution sounds like the one for you, we encourage you to go for it! But try to make it fun – if it’s food and diet, try new recipes and learn a few new favourites. If it’s exercise, look for something you enjoy doing and commit to that. Health and wellness don’t have to be an uphill battle. You can make it stick if it’s something you love to do!

Get Out More

International travel might be off the cards for some time yet. But there’s plenty to be done right here in Australia – you don’t even have to get that far outside Melbourne to find some truly special experiences! Ask around, or get looking online, and you’ll find that there are plenty of things to do and see in regional Victoria.

Pre-COVID-19, thousands of travelers from all over the world would flock to Victoria each year to do things like drive along the Great Ocean Road, hike through the Grampians National Park, and visit world class wineries in the Yarra Valley. With so many regional communities eagerly awaiting the return of life as normal, we encourage you to get out there and see some more of your own backyard!

Spend More Time with Friends and Family

Last year was a battle for everyone on the social front. For those that found themselves longing for that closeness during each of the lockdown periods, your resolution might be to find more time for your friends and family.

This one is different for everyone, but we know that it’s all about being proactive. That might mean re-claiming some of your time from other obligations. It might also mean getting involved with new groups, classes or communities to build new connections! Again, making it fun is a great way to make it stick.
