Spotlight – Resident Bevan Gray

Burnside Village

In 1953 Bevan’s wife Margaret Scull became the first woman to train a winner at the Melbourne showgrounds – in the sport of pacing, she was only 20 years old at the time. Originally from Tasmania Margaret successfully trained greyhounds as well.

Bevan was a pacing driver and he drove for Margaret’s father and that is how he met Margaret. Bevan and Margaret married in 1958.

Bevan moved into Burnside village in February 2020 after his wife Margaret passed away in 2019. He is enjoying the companionship and having time to write short stories based on his personal memories.
