Furnishing Your New Home in Keilor Village

Last modified on December 16th, 2020

Making the move into a new home is an exciting experience – but it can be hard to know where to start. For those making the move into an apartment here with us in Keilor Village – we wanted to provide you with a few tips on how you can get the best out of your move!

Consider the Differences in Space

Before you do anything, it’s important that you consider the differences between your current home and your new home in Keilor Village. For most, the move involves a downsize, and potentially the first time that you might have lived in a unit or apartment. This move is an opportunity to simplify and streamline how you live – but to do that you have to ensure you aren’t trying to fit all the belongings of a three-bedroom house into your new apartment!

Consolidate the Furnishings You Have

We recommend starting with the bigger things. Did you want to take your existing bed with you? What about your other larger furniture like couches and dining tables? This might be a brilliant opportunity to start fresh with new bedding or give tired items of furniture an update.

Even if there isn’t anything notably wrong with any of your existing furniture, it might simply not be a great fit for the space you’re moving into. That aside, making choices as to what you are taking with you (and starting with the big pieces) is going to give you plenty of structure around which to make all the rest of your home décor fit.

Find a Place for the Things You’re Not Taking with You

It’s easy to overlook this step until it becomes a little bit of a logistical sticking point. But when it comes to discarding clothes, furniture, appliances, or anything else you have around the home – getting organised and doing a little research can make this is an opportunity to help the less fortunate!

In and around Melbourne, organisations like Welcome West Wagon, Helping Hands Mission, and Sister Works are all set up to take charitable donations of household items. There will be some things, like mattresses, that you can’t donate. But a quick search online will likely turn up plenty of options for all sorts of items near you!

Make the Most of Your New Space

A move into Keilor Village means having a brilliant new space to decorate. Once you’ve figured out what you’re bringing with you, and what you’re getting rid of – now is when you get the chance to make some fresh choices about how you want to decorate your space.

Get online, take a look at interior design magazines and media, and let your imagination run wild! Just make sure you aren’t trying to pull the décor in too many directions at once – sometimes less truly is more.
